Patients requiring an Andrology test or sperm banking must book an appointment beforehand. This is to ensure that the sample is analysed within one hour, to give a reliable result to the doctor, and so that patients freezing their sperm for long term use will have the best possible chance of a viable sample post-thaw.

Patients can choose to produce their sample at home, so long as they live within 45 minutes of the laboratory and deliver the sample within that time-frame. Patients may also attend the Andrology Unit, where there is a private room available at the clinic. Hospital collections can also be arranged, please contact the laboratory about this.

All patients must bring a request form from a GP or specialist to their appointment.

INSTUCTIONS FOR SAMPLE COLLECTION

• Collect in a sterile collection jar.
• Avoid intercourse for 2-7 days.
• Write full name, date of birth, date and time of sample collection on jar.
• Produce sample by masturbation without any lubricant or water.
• Sample can be produced at Andrology Unit. If collected at home or other hospital, must be delivered to Andrology Unit within 60 minutes of collection.  
• Transport at room temperature.
• Do not place on hot or cold surface.
